The European Label Award initiative is in line with the Council of Europe's (CoE) Strategy for Innovation and Good Governance, which incorporates 12 principles of good democratic governance, the adoption and implementation of which by municipalities guarantees effective and efficient planning and management of local policies and measures for the benefit of citizens, different social groups and businesses:
- Fair conduct, representativeness and public participation during elections;
- Responsiveness;
- Efficiency and efficiency;
- Openness and transparency;
- Rule of law;
- Ethical behavior;
- Competence and capacity;
- Innovation and openness to change;
- Sustainability and long-term orientation;
- Sound financial management;
- Human rights, cultural diversity and social cohesion;
- Accountability.
The application deadline for municipalities to be awarded the European Label will be 20 May 2020.
